Due to this situation the holding of the Matugama Sathi Pola yesterday (18) was stopped by the Chairman of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha Meryl Munasinghe at the request of the health sector.
The Bus Association has also decided not to temporarily operate luxury private buses plying from Matugama.
The President of the Matugama Luxury Bus Association Prasanna Deepal stated that the decision was taken taking into consideration the health of the bus passengers and staff.
A resident of the Sirikandura area in Badugama, Matugama, the owner and conductor of a luxury bus traveling on the expressway, the driver of the bus, a resident of the Yatadolawatta area in Matugama and a nurse working at the Colombo National Hospital have been diagnosed with corona.
The wife and son of the owner of the express bus, the family of the conductor of the bus, two pilgrims and a resident of the Beragama area in Agalawatta who had gone to work in Colombo for three days were also infected.
It was reported on the afternoon of the 17th that a Matugama-Colombo luxury bus conductor residing in the Agalawatta area and a luxury bus driver residing in the Kekulandala area on the Agalawatta Omatta Road were also infected with the corona virus.
Meanwhile, the Matugama Medical Officer of Health stated that 17 of the reports received on the 18th were reported to be infected with the corona virus.
Among them are people from Liyankandala, Ovitigala and Sirikandura areas in the Matugama area.
Steps have been taken to quarantine more than 150 houses in the Matugama Medical Officer of Health Division, more than 250 houses in the Walallawita Medical Officer of Health Division and more than 50 houses in the Agalawatta Medical Officer of Health Division.
