$ 500 million financial assistance from India to Sri Lanka !

India has agreed to provide another US $ 500 million in financial assistance to purchase fuel for Sri Lanka, External Affairs Minister Prof. GL Peiris said.

In addition, the Bangladeshi government has agreed to defer payment of $ 450 million to Bangladesh, the foreign minister said.

Reuters reports that Foreign Minister GL Peiris made the statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, China has decided to provide emergency humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka.

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has posted a note on its Twitter account stating that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Development Cooperation Agency have decided to provide the relevant assistance.

The Chinese Embassy further stated that the assistance will be provided to assist the people of Sri Lanka in overcoming the current difficulties and that details of the assistance will be released in the near future.
