Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed Parliament today that action would be taken to suspend the distribution of food from the canteen of Parliament to 53 members of the Sri Lanka People’s Front following a written request. The Speaker said that a decision will be taken at a future meeting of party leaders on whether the decision will be implemented for all members of parliament. The Leader of the House, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the government will soon submit a draft amendment to the Standing Orders of Parliament to increase the powers of the Committees including COPE and COPA.
