Egoda Uyana Police say that a mother was killed and her three children were hospitalized after a luxury car driven by the same family at a birthday party collided with a power pole in the Koralawella area on the Galle-Colombo road.
The deceased has been identified as Sasani Shalika Kotte, 41, a resident of Samanpura, Moratuwa. The husband of the woman who died in the accident has been arrested by the police.
They were returning home from a luxury party in Kalutara when they were returning home from a luxury car requested by a friend.
The three daughters of the deceased, aged 8, 13 and 16, who were traveling in the back of the car, were critically injured and are being treated at the Colombo National Hospital and the Panadura Base Hospital, a police officer said.
The husband of the deceased woman who was arrested in the accident was also injured and 4 stitches were applied to his ankle with 8 stitches, police said.
He had gone to work at 3 in the morning before attending the party and had attended the party without any rest, police said.
The body of the deceased has been placed at the Panadura Base Hospital morgue and the postmortem examination was scheduled to be held yesterday.
