95% effective vaccine for Covid-19 from USA

Foreign Media reported that a new vaccine that protects against Covid-19 is nearly 95% effective, according to early data from US company Moderna.

This is the second vaccine in the United States to have an extreme high success rate. Last week, Pfizer announced that early data showed that its vaccine is more than 90% effective against the disease. The results add to growing confidence that vaccines can help end the pandemic.

Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccines have similar results because they use the same technique to activate the body’s immune system according to reports. Both vaccines are supposed to be given in two doses several weeks apart.

The company hopes to have up to one billion doses available for use around the world next year.

Pfizer’s vaccine has to be kept at minus 75 degrees Celsius while Moderna’s vaccine can be kept at minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Therefore, Moderna’s vaccine can be kept in a freezer that is available in most pharmacies while most places do not have facility to store at minus 75 degrees Celsius required for the Pfizer’s vaccine.

Moderna’s vaccine can be kept for 30 days in the refrigerator while the Pfizer’s vaccine can last only five days in the refrigerator according to foreign media reports.

Meanwhile, the Sputnik V vaccine, developed by the Gamaleya Scientific Research Institute and the Russian defence ministry, which is a two-shot vaccine, is 92 percent effective.

This data comes from the first interim analysis of data from its Phase 3 clinical trial.
Three vaccines Moderna, Sputnik and Pfizer have taken the lead in the race to develop a vaccine against Covid-19, with their clinical trials showing remarkable success rates ranging from 90 to 95 percent effectiveness.

This has given the public some hope of the possibility of vaccinations from December this year and with several producers coming forward, this could result in competitive pricing and flexibility.
