An associate of ‘Mervyn Jana’ arrested – 43 million transactions – SI arrested with heroin

Nuwan Lakshitha, an associate of imprisoned drug trafficker Mervyn Jana has been arrested in Mt. Lavinia.

Investigations have revealed that Rs. 43 million has been transacted from his bank account. Accordingly, investigations have been initiated to identify the persons who have received finances from him.

Meanwhile, the Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a 41 year old son of an underworld gang leader named Gawara in the Horana – Ingiriya area. According to information received, the suspect was arrested during a raid in the area yesterday and police seized a firearm and several sharp weapons in his possession.

Also, a Sub Inspector of the Colombo CID has been arrested with 1360 milligrams of heroin in the Hulangamuwa area in Matale. He was arrested while engaging in heroin trafficking with two other persons.

Meanwhile, a stock of ammunition was found in the Galkiriyagama – Daniyagama area. Police stated that 65 empty shell casings used for 12 bore firearms have been recovered. According to information received by the police, the ammunition was found hidden in a canal in the area yesterday.
