Another private bank employee from Matugama infected with COVID

Sixteen (16) people including the Armour Street Police OIC were directed to quarantine after two family members of a Police Sergeant at the Police Station were confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that after the disinfection of the Police post yesterday (18), other officers were deployed to start other activities.

The total number of the Minuwangoda Brandix cluster increased to 2,075 after another 61 patients tested positive for the virus yesterday (18).

Accordingly, the total number of infected persons in the country has increased to 5,538 and the number of patients receiving further hospital treatment is 2,122.

The number of COVID-19 recoveries stand at 3,403.

The health authorities stated that 56 cases of coronavirus were reported from the Gampaha District yesterday (18), out of which 41 cases were reported from the Katunayake Export Processing Zone (EPZ).

Accordingly, a total of 1,583 coronavirus patients were reported from the Gampaha District thus far.

Meanwhile, the Katunayake Police has informed the employees at the Katunayake EPZ that they are required to travel to their places of employment by vehicles provided by the employer and not in their private vehicles.

Katunayake Police OIC, Chief Inspector Akila Ranasinghe stated that this decision was taken after several EPZ employees were arrested for travelling to other areas using their employee identity card as a curfew license under the pretext of coming to work.

Seven students facing the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) from the Gampaha District were also identified to have contracted coronavirus.

In addition, 28 COVID-19 patients were reported from the Seeduwa Public Health Inspection Division and they have been referred to Laggala, Neville Fernando Hospital and Pallegama Hospitals.

An employee of a private bank in Matugama was identified as a coronavirus patient.

The Kahathuduwa Medical Officer of Health said yesterday (18) that two employees of private bank in Wellawatte and their two mothers were also infected with coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Medical Officer of Health Dr. Uthpala Sankalpa stated that 200 families in the Kuliyapitiya area were directed to quarantine after 11 COVID-19 patients were identified in the same area.
