CID Failed To Send The Explosives Raid Report To CNI

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had not sent any progress report pertaining to the investigations conducted on vandalizing of Buddha statues in Mawanella and explosives raid in Wanathawilluwa in 2018 to the office of Chief of National Intelligence (CNI), former CNI Sisira Mendis yesterday informed PCoI probing Easter Sunday attacks.

Testifying before the Commission Mr. Mendis said that the CID officials had not participated to intelligence coordination meetings held after the raid where explosives were found at Wanathawilluwa safe house in December 2019.

“There were certain issues between CNI’s office and CID during the previous administration and CID officials did not participate in any intelligence coordination meeting chaired by me,” former CNI informed the Commission.

Further Mr. Mendis said that during the intelligence coordination meeting conducted within the first two months in 2019, the security heads had decided to share all facts related to Zahran among every security institution.

He also said that during an Intelligence Coordination meeting held on February 5, 2019, the security heads said that they had decided to find a permanent solution to prevent Islamic radicalism spreading across the country.
