Dayasiri opposes the ‘power of the President’ in the constitutional amendment

Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Minister of State Dayasiri Jayasekara states that he is opposed to certain aspects of the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

He also says that the people should have the power to file lawsuits, at least regarding human rights or against the President.

However, he points out that the people have voted this time to abolish the 19th Amendment, that is, to abolish all these.

The Minister states that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is crucial to pass this amendment and if his 14 members do not vote, two thirds of the power will be lost.

However, he says that his party is not ready to negotiate with the national issues of the country and that he will support a reform process that is accountable to the country in repealing the 19th Amendment.

He further states that he does not believe that the government’s popularity should be destroyed and amended.

Mr. Jayasekara has expressed these views while participating in a discussion with a newspaper.
