Demand for local rice down

Maradagahamula Rice Traders Association President B. said that the price of rice has decreased. K. Ranjith said.

He also said that as rice imported from India and China is being sold at a low price in the market, the demand for local rice has decreased.

The Chairman said that a kilo of Samba rice of good quality will be sold for 225 rupees and a kilo of Nadu rice will be sold for 215 rupees. He said that the owners of private paddy mills will buy a kilo of paddy of the required standard at 120 rupees, and a kilo of wet paddy with 18 percent condition at 100 rupees.

He said that there is absolutely no reason for the price of rice to increase in the future, and that the rice received as aid from India and China is too much in the country to be distributed.

He further said that the Minister of Agriculture promised to provide all the chemical fertilizers required for the upcoming season, and if things are done accordingly, there will be no rice problem in the future.
