The Chief Prelates of all three Buddhist Chapters informed President Ranil Wickremesinghe in writing yesterday that a new concessional electricity tariff system should be introduced for religious places considering the social and religious services they offer to the public.
The Prelates informed the President that to sustain the services rendered by religious places to create a society enriched with values and spiritual virtues and at public welfare, a new concessional electricity tariff should be prepared for them.
In a joint letter the prelates pointed out that Buddhist temples and other registered religious places located all over the island are doing a great deal of work for the welfare of the society.
