President Ranil Wickramasinghe said that the supply of fuel has to be limited and that a system of importing fuel will be started to match the country’s export income and foreign remittances.
He said this while presenting his policy statement at the beginning of the parliamentary session.
“Currently, the power cut has been reduced to three hours. The gas shortage is coming to an end. Fertilizer is being brought. Safety measures have been taken to avoid food shortages.
Efforts have been made to bring essential medicines and equipment to the hospitals. Schools have started again.
Steps have been taken to remove the obstacles in the industry and export sector. I would like to recall the support provided by India during the resurgence.
The Government of India gave us a breath of life. I thank Prime Minister Modi, the Government of India and the people of India.
The era of waiting for loans from other countries to import fuel should end.
Therefore, we are starting a system of importing fuel to meet our country’s export income and foreign remittances.
We have to restrict selected imports in order to balance the payment for fuel. Fuel supply has to be limited. Let us endure these hardships for the sake of the country until this crisis is over.”
