A ship carrying fuel has caught fire in the seas 38 nautical miles off Sangaman Kanda Point in Ampara. A Navy spokesman said that the Navy has already taken steps to rescue the crew of the MT New Diamond.
A Navy spokesman said the ship belonged to Panama and was en route to India.
Two ships from the Trincomalee Naval Base and one from the Hambantota Naval Base were deployed to rescue the crew of the ship.
