Gotabaya has not been given any privilege or immunity – Singapore Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has said that Sri Lanka’s former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa does not have any privileges or immunity in Singapore.

Foreign media reports that the Minister has stated this while answering a question raised in the Singapore Parliament.

Singapore’s foreign minister has stated that the government of Singapore does not usually give privileges, immunity or hospitality to former heads of state or heads of state and former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was also not given any privilege or immunity.

Due to protests in the country, the 73-year-old former president traveled to the Maldives and then arrived in Singapore on a Saudi Arabian flight on July 14, where Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was granted a tourist visa for 14 days. It was recently extended for another 14 days and accordingly former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is allowed to stay in Singapore until the 11th.
