Former President Maithripala Sirisena MP yesterday said because of the faults of others he now has to pay compensation to the Easter Sunday attack victims.
Responding to a question from a journalist at the SLFP headquarters in Colombo, Sirisena said it is one thing to level allegations, but such allegations have to be proven as well.
Sirisena said he is at present raising funds from the public and friends to pay the compensation before the deadline. The Supreme Court earlier ruled that former President Maithripala Sirisena and four other former officials had violated fundamental human rights by failing to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks in April 2019 despite receiving prior intelligence information.
