The Ministry of Power and Energy says national electricity consumption has reduced by around 30% at present.
However the Ministry has warned that if electricity is not used sparingly, domestic electricity consumption could increase.
Accordingly all public consumers have been urged to refrain from wasting electricity unnecessarily.
At present around 15% of the national power demand is being supplied by hydropower generation.
The Ministry noted however that hydroelectricity production is limited to some extent, due to the release of water needed for vital agricultural purposes.
