The Minister of Power and Energy Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera says that the old Bowsara is currently being repaired and a program to provide fuel to the agricultural fields will be started soon.
Also, the minister stated that the farmers will be provided with the necessary facilities to get fuel from fuel stores in depots and army camps.
Minister Kanchana Wijesekera stated that steps have been taken to issue QR codes under a separate category for the fuel required for agricultural machinery, and through that method, fuel can be issued for agricultural machinery in the Mahaweli region.
The minister said this in the discussion held recently (02) at the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka regarding the procurement of fuel for the harvesting of the yala season in the paddy lands cultivated in the Mahaweli region as well as for the farming activities in the high season.
The discussion was held with the participation of the senior officials of the two ministries, including the Minister of Irrigation, Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. Roshan Ranasinghe and the Minister of Power and Energy, Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera.
