People asked not to rush to buy goods

Health authorities have requested the general public not to rush to buy goods from supermarkets as there was no need to do so at present.

Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said they had noticed people rushing to buy grocery and get their vehicles filled with fuel following the detection of a Covid 19 patient from Divulapitiya yesterday.

“We urge people not to get into such situation as it would further intensify the risk,” he said.

“We have witnessed similar incidents of this nature as to how the distribution of essential goods was operated in the country,” Dr Samaraweera added.

Hence, he requested people not to panic and tend to collect food for household consumption at present.

Meanwhile, he said they were taking all the precautionary measures to mitigate the situation and bring back the normalcy.
