Ranil Wickremesinghe writes to Germany and Norway on coronavirus pandemic

Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe reached out to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg on the COVID -19 pandemic.

In a letter addressed to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Wickremesinghe said the pandemic caused by the coronavirus has become a global threat causing upheaval in the lives of people across nations and it has also become the leading cause of concern for the future.

The letter went on to read that Wickremesinghe was confident that under the leadership of Merkel, Germany will be able to recover rapidly from the disruptions created by the coronavirus to the economy and public life.

Ranil Wickremesinghe further said the steps taken to control the spreading of the virus and to bring back normalcy by the Government of Germany, could be considered as a best example to be followed by other countries.

In his letter to the Norwegian PM Erna Solberg, Wickremesinghe said the dramatic and timely measures taken by the Government of Norway has paved the way for Norway to relax some of the emergency measures taken to control the pandemic.

It is heartening to note that Norway has been able to take control of the outbreak.

The people of Norway possess the strength and courage required to overcome this pandemic and march towards prosperity, he said.

The former PM further expressed his best wishes for the personal wellbeing of both, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Norwegian PM Erna Solberg.
