Batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa believes Sri Lanka has a good chance of winning the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia.
Bhanuka made this statement after defeating India by 6 wickets in an Asia Cup encounter in Dubai last evening.
The 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to get underway on the 16th of October with Sri Lanka taking on Namibia in Geelong. Sri Lanka has won the T20 World Cup in 2014, but has been enduring a lean patch in white-ball cricket for several years.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa however believes Sri Lanka now has a strong team and they are confident of doing well in Australia.
Rajapaksa said they came to the UAE to compete along with heavyweights India and Pakistan and were justifiably rated as underdogs.
He said India and Pakistan on their day could steamroll any team.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa said however after three wins in a row, they should not be called underdogs.
He said they are hoping to have a good outing against Pakistan on Friday and then tussle for supremacy on Sunday in Dubai.
With wins over Afghanistan and India in the Super 4 stage, Sri Lanka all but assured a place in the Sunday’s final.
Pakistan takes on Afghanistan in another game tonight and a win for Babar Azam’s side would confirm the elimination of pre-tournament favourites India from the 2022 Asia Cup.
