It is reported that the young girl arrested in connection with the accident in Colombo -07 yesterday , when the SUV driven by her crashed in to a car dealership showroom near the Nelum Pokuna Theater in Colombo and the owner of the vehicle are due to be produced before court within the next few days.
However, the SSP’s daughter who has driven without the license and the owner of the vehicle have been released on a police bail of Rs. 10,000 each.
The vehicle is supposed to have been hired from a rent a car dealer.
The Cinnamon Gardens OIC said that a case would be filed against the girl for driving without a valid driver’s license, for reckless driving and for not preventing an accident.
The owner of the vehicle has been inside the vehicle during the time of the accident.
The OIC of the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station stated that a case will be filed against him for providing the vehicle to a person who does not have a driver’s license.
The girl was to be produced in court the day after the accident, but it was postponed since the court proceedings are limited due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The OIC also states that this accident is an offense that can be granted police bail.
It is reported that the girl and the two persons concerned had gone to a nearby restaurant for coffee.
Police investigations have revealed that none of them had consumed alcohol or any other narcotic substances.
They were produced before the Kalubowila Judicial Medical Officer by the Cinnamon Gardens Police for alcohol tests.
It is reported that the father of the girl involved in the accident, the SSP, has not influenced the police investigations into the accident. He had come to the Cinnamon Gardens police station to see his daughter on the afternoon of the accident but he had not even gone to the OIC’s room.
When we inquired about this from the Cinnamon Gardens OIC, he said that the relevant SSP had not even spoken to him about the accident over the phone. He also stated that he is conducting investigations into the accident as a normal accident.
It has been revealed that the person who had removed the number plates of the car after the accident was a person at the employed by the owner of the rent a car company that owned the vehicle.
It is reported that an attempt has been made to hide the number plates of the vehicle since it is difficult to resell once the number plate of the car was displayed on social media.
However, further police investigations are being carried out.
