The cabinet approved the introduction of national guidelines and minimum standards for child development centers.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe has focused on introducing national guidelines and minimum standards for child development centers in Sri Lanka. The related cabinet paper has been submitted by Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe to the cabinet and it has been approved by the cabinet.

Guidelines and policies developed at the provincial level for child development centers are already being implemented to provide quality services for future children. But there was a lack of nationally recognized guidance. This national guideline presented by the National Child Protection Authority is planned to be implemented covering all child development centers across the country. Steps have been taken to introduce these national guidelines and minimum standards under the supervision and guidance of relevant experts representing all stakeholders related to the childcare sector.

The initial draft of National Guidelines and Minimum Standards for Child Development Centers was initiated in 2013. It started by studying the minimum standards that exist at the international level and since then, these guidelines and standards have been prepared by incorporating the issues of child development, law, health and child protection in a number of stages.
