Kopay Police say that a young woman was killed and her father was seriously injured when a train collided with a bicycle at a railway crossing near the Kokuvil railway station in Jaffna.
The deceased has been identified as a 24-year-old girl from Kokuvil.
The accident took place at a railway crossing about 100 meters from the Kokuvil railway station.
The accident occurred when a bicycle collided with an intercity express train traveling from Colombo to Kankesanthurai.
The girl had not seen the train as she was crossing the railway crossing on her bicycle.
But locals said the girl had been run over by the train.
The father who was seriously injured in the accident was admitted to the hospital and the girl died on the spot.
