Tissa to mediate meeting between UNP leaders

Former General Secretary of the United National Party Tissa Attanayake says he will mediate a meeting between the United National Party leaders to bring an end to the prevailing crisis within the party.

Speaking to NewsRadio, former MP Tissa Attanayake said he is working to facilitate a face-to-face discussion between UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa.

He said party members and the public are eager to see an end to the on-going crisis within the UNP.

The former UNP General Secretary is of the view that through discussions all matters within the party should be resolved.

He said before the announcement of the general election, the UNP should resolve all its internal differences.

Commenting on the calls for the formation of a new party headed Sajith Premadasa, former Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said a division within the UNP will lead to the erosion of public support ahead of the pivotal election.

He said through the formation of a new party the present government will benefit immensely.

Former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said by forming a broad alliance the party can achieve major victories in future.
