Veteran singer Annesley Nanayakkara passed away this morning (17) while receiving treatment at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. He entered the art world in the ’70s Awakening Singers’ program and has sung in plays such as Ediriweera Sarachchandra’s Maname and Sinhabahu. He released a cassette tape called Lapalu Latha Mandapaya in the 80’s and has sung Yuga songs with Dr. Nandamalani, Malani Bulathsinhala, Chandralekha Perera and Nelu Adhikari. Among the songs he sang were Lapalulatha Mandaye, Ninda Ma Nethin and Hansavile Hasangana Vee. Veteran singer Annesley Nanayakkara, who was 70 at the time of his death, will be laid to rest at the Anuradhapura – Nisala Nimnaya Public Cemetery tomorrow (18) evening, our regional correspondent said.
