It is further reported that senior police officers are being promoted and transferred for political reasons. This has been pointed out to us on several previous occasions. However, when we inquired about this, the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Defense, retired Major General Jagath Alwis said that his Ministry does not give promotions and transfers to police officers on such political grounds.
He further stated that a promotion or transfer of an officer is granted by his Ministry only on the recommendation of the IGP.
